When it comes to interior construction and remodeling, it’s often the details that make the biggest impact. Interior millwork plays a crucial role in defining the character, quality, and overall feel of a space. From custom trim and crown molding to window and door casings, millwork adds depth, craftsmanship, and a finished look that elevates any home.

What is Interior Millwork?

Interior millwork is custom crafted wood components installed inside a home. It elevates the overall design of a house and enhances a room with both form and function. Unlike standard, mass produced materials, millwork is often tailored to each individual space allowing for unique design details. Common examples include baseboards, crown moldings, wainscoting, coffered ceilings, stair railings, and door and window casings.

Why Choose Interior Millwork:

Millwork does more than simply frame a room. Thoughtfully designed trim can visually connect spaces, highlight architectural feature, and bring balance to a room’s proportions. High quality millwork also signifies craftsmanship, adding long term value and durability that we at, Strand Construction, can provide.

Custom vs. Stock Millwork:

Stock millwork can be cost efficient and faster with availability and installation, but custom millwork allows you, as a homeowner, to achieve a truly tailored design and ambiance to your home. Custom pieces are designed to not only match architectural styles and room dimensions, but also your specific style to your home.

Types of Millwork:

Crown Molding and Trim: Creates a seamless transition between walls and ceilings, adding elegance and height to a room. Baseboards and casings provide clean lines that frame floors, doors and windows while protecting surfaces from everyday wear.

Wainscoting and Wall Paneling: Wall treatments such as headboard or raised panels introduce texture and visual interest. These elements can make large spaces feel warmer and add charm to hallways, dining rooms, and bathrooms.

Window seats and benches: Combine seating and storage, and they are typically integrated into alcoves or bay windows to serve as a practical and fashionable addition.

Staircases and Railing: Stair components are both functional and highly visible. Custom posts, handrails, and balusters can become a focal point, blending in with architectural style.

Coffered Ceilings: Classic architectural feature that instantly adds depth, character, and elegance to a home.

Window and Door Casings: Provide a clean transition between surfaces and help define the architectural structure of a home, from simple and modern to classic. Builders generally wrap openings such as windows and doors with drywall.

What Sets Our Company Apart:

While many construction companies can install trim or molding, exceptional millwork requires precision, experience, and an eye for detail. At Strand Construction, interior millwork is more than a finishing step, it’s a defining element of every project we complete.

·      When it comes to windows and doors, we go a step beyond and put wood casings, wood sills, and a wood apron around windows to make them look more elegant.

·      For coffered ceilings, we like to define them by a series of recessed panels or wood inserts to create depth to a room.

·      When choosing interior door styles, we prefer to go with single panel shaker doors vs. multi-panel shaker doors to create a timeless look that works well in both modern and traditional interiors

·      While MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) is common, we use real wood moldings for its greater durability, better resistance to moisture, long term investment, and its authentic appearance and character.
