When it comes to construction and remodeling, lighting can be often overlooked. At Strand Construction we personally think it can completely transform the feel and functionality of a space. The right lighting not only highlights your home’s best features but also enhances it.

1. Understanding the Types of Lighting

A well designed lighting layout uses a mix of ambient, focus, and accent lighting

·      Ambient lighting provides illumination, often from ceiling fixtures or recessed lighting creating any mood you desire

·      Accent lighting adds depth and drama, highlighting architectural details, textured walls, or artwork

·      Focus lighting provides lighting where you most need it. For example, under cabinet lights in the kitchen or in a garage

Blending these layers creates balance and functionality in every room

2. Choose the Right Light Bulbs

There are three types of light bulbs that homeowners can choose from. They may seem similar, but they differ in how they work, their energy use, lifespan, and overall performance

·      Incandescent lighting is a classic type of lighting that has been used in homes for over a century. They produce a warm, soft light that creates a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas.

·      Fluorescent lighting provides a strong, cool-toned brightness that is popular for kitchens, laundry rooms, basements, garages, home offices, and workshops. Anywhere in your home that requires a bright and clear light is where fluorescent lights are usually used. They are also more energy efficient and have a longer life span than incandescent lights.

·      LED lights are the most energy efficient, long lasting, and available in range of color temperatures to match any mood. Warm white LED lights create a cozy feel, while cool white is perfect for workspaces and bathrooms

3. Efficiency and Sustainability

·      Lighting makes up a big part of a home’s energy use. Choosing energy efficient fixtures and bulbs can lower utility bills and reduce environmental impact. Smart lighting systems and motion sensors can also help conserve energy without sacrificing comfort.

4. Have in Mind Style and Design

·      Lighting fixtures are a design feature. From recessed lights to statement pendants, your lighting choice should reflect your home’s personal and architecture style. A well placed fixture can serve as both functional and decorative.

Finding the perfect lighting for your home is all about creating comfort, showcasing design, and improving everyday life. Working with us at Strand Construction, we ensure that we will make every homeowner’s dream home come to light.
